Hop across to Twitter (X) on Monday evenings from 8.00pm. It’s simple to join in, all you need to do is go to the Twitter search bar, type in #LincsConnect then tap on the ‘search’ button if you’re using the App or hit ‘return’ if you’re logged in from a computer search engine. The tap or click ‘Latest’.
That’s it! Once you’re there, simply follow the instructions from whoever is hosting the Hour. The #LincsConnect Hour often starts off with introductions and adverts along with an invitation for embers to post any adverts they may have. General chat between members follows as part of the introductions then sometime around 8.10pm the host will post a question. There are often 3 or 4 questions during the Hour but the format is flexible and dependant on the host on the night.

If you’re using Twitter (rules vary from Twitter to Facebook/Instagram) I highly recommend that you ditch the ‘Like’ button.
Twitter is an interactive platform so your best results will come from interacting with your followers. That’s one of the main differences between Twitter and other platforms. What does the ‘Like’ button say about you on Twitter?
- I don’t have time for you so I’ll just press the like button instead of saying ‘thank you’ or interacting.
- I’m not that interested in you so I’ll just press the Like button and hope that you read my posts.
- I don’t understand algorithms and how they work so I’ll press the Like button and hope for the best.
- I can’t be bothered to talk to my followers.
When scrolling down your twitter timeline you will see tweets from people you follow, sponsored (paid advertising) tweets and tweets that have been retweet by your followers. You’ll never see a ‘Liked’ tweet!
The ‘Like’ button does have its uses though. It’s a good way of saving tweets for future reference. Beyond that, I’m struggling to think of a good reason to use it on Twitter!

I’ve said it many times before; the clue is in the name. ‘Social’ media should be exactly what it says in the title. Actually ‘talk’ to your followers.
There’s a TV advert for a room freshener implying that the character has gone ‘nose blind’. In social media terms, if you post, post, post with no interaction your followers will see your posts but they won’t register in their mind. However, if you ‘talk’ to your followers they’ll remember you as that nice person/business who takes an interest. Obviously talking to your followers doesn’t mean telling them how good you are and what you have to sell them. Instead, you need to show an interest in other people to let them know you care about them. Given time they will ask you what you do and what you have to offer. As a result, you don’t need to do the ‘hard sell’.

Around me in Lincolnshire – Gainsborough near Lincoln UK. Gainsborough was once (in 1013) the capital of England. England was ruled from the Gainsborough Castle which is now the site of the Gainsborough Old Hall. The status was short lived but if ever there was a claim to fame, ‘this’ has to be a pretty good contender.

Getting To Gainsborough, Lincolnshire
Located on the banks of the River Trent, Gainsborough (capitol of England in 1013) has historically had easy access routes. Moving on, you’ll see on this map that Gainsborough is still easily accessible from the M180 to the North, the A1 to the West, the A15 to the East and the A57 from the South. These routes make Gainsborough ideally situated for your next outing to explore our rich heritage in Lincolnshire.
The Trent Bridge was completed in 1791 (there was formerly a ferry crossing) which put an end to commercial shipping as larger boats are unable to navigate under the bridge. However, rail links are very much alive and available. With two train stations (Lea Road and Gainsborough Central) rail travel is easy. Trains run direct from/to Retford, Sheffield, Doncaster and Lincoln from Lea Road. The Gainsborough Central station has direct routes to Cleethorpes and Brigg. It’s even possible for travellers to get to Gainsborough from the new capital (London) with just one change.

Two thousand one hundred and sixty four and counting…. That’s how many Greyhounds this fantastic local charity have managed to re-home. That’s a fantastic achievement. To top it off they have a policy of guaranteeing to accept any dogs that are returned. It’s not ideal to have dogs returned but some new owners find they can’t cope with the reality of owning a dog. That said, looking at the percentages across other charities you’ll find this Gainsborough trust are performing well.

We did it during the lockdowns so if distance or work patterns mean you’re apart you could order a meal for yourself and someone else and enjoy it over a Zoom, Teams or FaceTime catchup.
We ‘are’ creative and we ‘can’ do it so get it organised before all the delivery slots are gone. It’ll be a wonderful way to show someone how much you care and how thankful you are for their support. Dining in can be just as romantic as dining out of course so if you aren’t able to get to a restaurant you still have other options. ‘Ambience’ is everything so if you’re cooking a surprise dinner I recommend that you set the scene. A table set for two or a dinner party is definitely the way to go. Put your creativity to work to make the table look special. Attention to detail is key so have a search around to see what you can find that will work well. We have many inspirational platforms to search these days so make the most of sites like YouTube and Instagram to get your creativity flowing.
One of my favourite lamb recipes (mainly because it’s super tasty but also because it’s so easy to cook) is grilled lamb chops with a local honey and mustard glaze. Serve it up with fresh seasonal vegetables and add some vine tomatoes to spruce it up with a bit of red (and flavour of course). I’m not a fan of mustard but this recipe really works. You won’t be disappointed I’m sure:
Recipe Tip
Two lamb chops per person. Heat the grill, spread a thin coating of whole grain mustard onto each lamb chop, sprinkle some brown sugar or drizzle some local honey onto each one then cook under the grill until the glaze changes colour. Turn the chops over and repeat. The whole cooking process takes just a few minutes. Be careful not to over cook the chops though as they are best served tender. Even ‘I’ can cook this one!

Whether you decide to dine out or dine in it’s always nice to have a cozy home. A real fire during the cold weather is lovely (and romantic too) but not all of us have that option. Valentines In Lincolnshire – A Walk In The Park
Having mentioned ‘pledges’ as part of the gifting idea, have you ever considered going for a walk together?
Lincolnshire is blessed with some fantastic parks, many of which are wheelchair friendly too. Living close to Lincoln I can think of four wheelchair friendly parks that have many miles of pathways. Thinking further afield I can think of at least two parks in the Lincolnshire Wolds and numerous pathways along our coast. Make a pledge today to explore new parks and walks together. Whether you’re kicking fallen leaves, admiring the spring flowers, summer blooms or winter chills, being ‘together’ is the key.
Take the pledge further by joining a group walking session. Being together doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be hand in hand or shoulder to shoulder for the whole walk. In a group walking session you can be together as a couple or friends but be ready to accept new friends too.

Lincolnshire is blessed with a very large coastline and lots of coastal walks. We have the traditional arcades too of course and it’s always nice to support our local businesses. Why not plan your next coastal walk today? Perhaps you could combine a romantic coastal walk with an evening out. Skegness, Mablethorpe, Sutton on Sea and Cleethorpes all have lots to offer with local coffee shops, cafes, restaurants and, of course, fish and chip shops.
While you’re out, why not consider a bit of retail therapy? There are lots of family orientated places to visit so if you’re out as a couple or taking children with you there is definitely something for everyone in Lincolnshire.

Valentines In Lincolnshire – Made To Last
Traditionally we may have thought of a valentines gift as a short term gift designed to last a day or so. Jewellery is the exception to that rule of course but what about something quirky that’s made to last? Better still, something individual that’s made to last and is a ‘one off’ design! Finding a gift like that might be difficult in a normal shop but a bespoke painting or piece of art may be just what you’re looking for. I think I may get into trouble if I bring home any more paintings or vases but I’m always looking and sometimes I come across the perfect piece that captures the mood.
Valentines in Lincolnshire 2024 deserves some creative thinking. Something that captures the essence of your feelings during the last year as a gift sounds like a tall order. I recommend thinking about what your goal may be. A gift to show undying love is our usual idea for Valentines Day but in 2024 you may have broader considerations. The gift may be as a thank you token for a hero and saviour whose help, support and love you couldn’t have done without during the post pandemic concerns or today’s financial worries. Valentines In Lincolnshire – Fine Dining Or Diamonds?
Champagne, fine dining, diamonds…. Well, “two out of three ain’t bad” – in moderation of course! Who doesn’t like fine dining, fine foods and lovely jewellery? Valentines Day is a time when we feel the need for luxury and pampering. Christmas is behind us and summer seems quite a way away so why not enjoy a little of what you fancy? I really enjoy a fine dining experience and I’ve even been know to splash out on some expensive jewellery too. There’s nothing wrong with that!

A repeat message I know but by watching the video and learning the signs you may actually be able to help someone.
Domestic abuse is a daily worry for many people across the UK and Lincolnshire is no exception! Do you know someone who used to be bubbly and outgoing but now seems more withdrawn? Perhaps you never see your friend alone anymore because the partner is always around to keep a ‘watchful eye’. These are just two signs of potential domestic abuse. Some signs (bruising) are obvious but control and abuse can take many forms. What can you do about it? You can contact @edanlincs (End Domestic Abuse Now in Lincolnshire) via twitter, through their website www.edanlincs.org.uk or by phone 01522 510041.
Call the National Domestic Violence Helpline 0808 2000 247 if you need help. If you need immediate help call Lincolnshire police on 101. If you are in danger dial 999 and if you need a silent call add 55. As a direct result the police control room WILL monitor and trace your call and will dispatch staff to rescue you. Don’t suffer alone. Do seek help. If you need refuge follow this link to REFUGE which is open 24 hours a day and has a ‘quick exit’ button for your safety.
If you know of someone who is or may be suffering, ‘do something about it’. There is a ‘domestic abuse’ button on the Lincolnshire Police website which will be useful for information and reporting. As a direct result, you could save someone a lot of pain and heartache.

Great Grimsby Day 2021
Great Grimsby Day 2021 will be on Friday this year (traditionally held on 22 January each year) but celebrations will undoubtedly be low key due to the pandemic restrictions. Trying to research the origins of the day has proven difficult. The earliest mention of Great Grimsby Day that I can find is via the BBC Radio Humberside website in 2008. Despite searching and searching I haven’t been able to find anything earlier or even the origins of the day. However, the further I delved into the research, the more I found. Grimsby has a long history with the first charter being granted in 1201. Grimsby is famous for being Britains seafood town of course but the deeper I delve, the more history and diversity I uncover. The Grimsby Minster (pictured above) gained its Minster status on 16 May 2010 but its history goes way back to before 1114. Click on the picture above to go to the Minster website.

Fishing From Grimsby
A huge part of the history of Grimsby revolves around the fishing industry. Searching online I came across this wonderful Youtube video by Paul Cleary which was posted in 2014. Paul is the son of a fisherman and is donating all proceeds from the video to the R.N.L.I and R.N.M.D.S.F.

Great Grimsby Day – A Trip Worth Making
I’ve never visited on Great Grimsby Day but 22 January 2022 is in my diary now to make sure I pay another visit to take in the sights and smells of land and sea. It would be silly to make the trip and not take in some light refreshments of course so I can recommend a visit to Riverhead Coffee for a brew and a bite to eat. This cheeky picture was take during the same 2016 trip when I stopped off at the nearby Cleethorpes cafe. There is a second shop in Grimsby too of course so even during the lockdown you’ll be able to buy your supplies for Great Grimsby Day 2021 of goodies including Stokes Coffee

Great Grimsby Day – Food, Drink And More…
The whole of Lincolnshire is always buzzing with activity. Famed for its food production, fantastic cafes and restaurants, warm hospitality and beer. We have a huge brewery industry on the rise across the whole County so it would be amiss of me to not include Docks Beers in this blog. Brewing craft beers in an old church on King Edward Street since 2018 the team deliver beer both locally and nationwide. There is no keeping a good idea down so as a result the team have expanded to include spiced rum and gin too.

It would be unusual to complete the Lincs Connect blog without including some music and entertainment so here goes; Docks Beers also includes the outstanding Docks Academy where you’re sure to find the best live music, comedy and events. Sadly the latest Red Herring Comedy Club events scheduled for February and March have had to be postponed. Another casualty of the Covid-19 lockdown precautions but the good news is that the tickets will remain valid and the event will be re-scheduled. Supporting local and big name bands and artists this surely has to be one of the ‘must visit’ venues in the UK.

Celebrating Great Grimsby Day 2021 without including a local band would be like….. well, ‘fish without chips’!
I’ve heard all of the Trak3 singles and in my mind, this is their best recording yet. These guys are just getting better and better. You can follow them on Twitter @Trak3_Official but don’t forget to hop over to their YouTube channel to see what else they have to offer. This one is called ‘Get It Poppin’ and I think it really deserves a listen.
Indigo Bay are producing some great music too and deserve a listen. They’ve featured on BBC Introducing @BBCLincsIntro and I’ll be really surprised if they aren’t one of the big bands of the future. That’s just an example of course. The exact figures would have to be agreed privately by the restaurant and the designer/printer but you get the idea I’m sure. Again, if this interests enough people I’ll happily organise it. You’ll need to get in touch though so that I know whether to go ahead with the idea or not.
