WhatsOnLincs – Hubbards Hills in Louth, Lincolnshire is a true gem in the Lincolnshire Wolds and is a ‘must visit’ if you’re in the area.
It’s certainly not the best picture I’ve ever taken but it does show an image of the park. This is part of the poster that is situated at the entrance of Hubbards Hills at Halfpenny Lane. There are two entrances (one at Halfpenny Lane) with the second entrance via Crowtree Lane (accessible from Edward Street). This map gives a location for finding the hills but more importantly (for the purpose of this blog) it gives a key to the facilities provided.
Car Parking
There is a pay and display car park ( postcode LN11 0QW) from the Crowtree Lane entrance which is very convenient for the cafe and toilets. The Halfpenny Lane entrance (postcode LN11 9QU) has free but very limited car parking. Hubbards Hills are very popular all year round so don’t be too disappointed if you can’t get a free car parking space.
Cafe
The cafe is small and basic but is an ideal stop for walkers. There is a freezer too which is well stocked with ice creams so very handy during the warmer weather.
Hubbards Hills By Bus
WhatsOnLincs – Hubbards Hills by bus: There are local bus stops at Crowtree Lane and Love Lane which give you a short but picturesque very short walk to the Hubbards Hills. I haven’t tried the bus route so I can’t comment too much on it. However, I do believe that the bus runs from the Louth bus station.
Hubbards Hills – Getting In
If you manage to park on Halfpenny Lane you’ll be level with the park paths and will be able to walk straight in. This lower level is accessible by wheelchair. If you look immediately right at this entrance you’ll see some steep steps which lead to the top of the hills. The path runs across the top of the park along the edge of the grounds of the Louth Golf Course. If you’re able to tackle the steps you’ll be rewarded with some beautiful tree top views over the park land.
Hubbards Hills Treetop View In Summer
There is no denying that the autumn colours are truly spectacular. This photo was taken as the sun went behind a cloud but is still beautiful nonetheless. If you have any of your own photos to add please do leave them in the comments below. Hopefully I’ll be able to post a snow scene here this year too. I may even get to post a Valentine’s Day picture as I do think this is one of the more romantic walks to take with your loved one.

The path from the top of the steps is not paved and by its very nature, is riddled with tree roots. As a result you’ll need to exercise caution if you are visually impaired or unsteady on your feet.
From the top of the steps you’ll notice that there is a signpost offering additional walking routes. Remember though that this is the Lincolnshire Wolds so be prepared to have to tackle a few hills and rougher terrain.
Follow The Path
The path along the top the park runs the length of Hubbards Hills. The descent is fairly gentle and the track leads down to the single track, leading to Crowtree Lane. Turn left to make your way back into Hubbards Hills at the cafe and toilets entrance. As you turn left look for a small bridge on the right of the road. Cross this bridge and follow the path which runs parallel to the road.
If you park at the pay and display car park at Crowtree Lane entrance be aware that there is a descent from the car park to the paved path along the bottom of Hubbards Hills. It’s worth noting this small descent if you are planning on taking a wheelchair. It is accessible but you’ll need to take care.
WhatsOnLincs – Hubbards Hills At Water Level
The paved path running along the bottom of Hubbards Hills is most definitely wheelchair friendly. Grassy banks alongside are significantly steeper though. However, with that said, don’t let my words put you off. You’ll be glad you visited even if you can’t manage the steep banks, The River Lud is beautiful and well maintained (as is the rest of Hubbards Hills) by the charity trust who run the area.
During the summer Hubbards Hills is a magnet for families with young children. The river flows gently, is shallow and very clear. As a result it’s ideal for young paddlers while the family set up for a picnic. In order to get the best visual experience you’ll need to visit at least once every season.

In autumn it’s a lot less busy but regular visits will give you the best photo opportunities.

Hubbards Hills – Health And Safety
I’m no expert but looking at the condition of the banks, paths and bridges it appears evident to me that health and safety of visitors is a high priority for the trust as they maintain the grounds. Some of the trees have been taken down since I visited previously but the opening up of the stream area seems to have worked well.
Getting Out
this paved path (with the cafe behind you) will take you back to the Halfpenny Lane entrance and free car park. However, if you have time, do stay to enjoy this beautiful space. It’s great for children to play and explore, ideal for a picnic and a paddle but equally as pleasant to just sit, enjoy nature and contemplate.
Hubbards Hills is open all year so you can enjoy all of the seasons here. If you look at the map above you’ll see Louth town centre. Yes, it ‘is’ that close! When you’ve finished at Hubbards Hills do take some time to explore Louth too. It has a vibrant market every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Stress Buster
Following months of lockdown during the Coronavirus epidemic stress levels certainly reached a peak for many people. For some those stress levels are still very real. Many of us were confined to our home while others have been working at heightened levels of pressure, stress and anxiety. As a result we really became aware of ‘normality’ and looked forward to it with anticipation and hope.
Where some people experience stress levels lowering, others may be finding that their stresses are really only just beginning. Latterly we have heating and fuel concerns, inflation and the war in Ukraine as well as many other factors that are out of our control. We all adapt of course but that doesn’t stop us from feeling stressed.

Mandarin Therapies Massage For Stress
It’s well documented that massage helps to reduce stress and anxiety levels. The physical touch and deep relaxation experienced during a massage will last for a long time afterwards too. Researching this subject is difficult so I recommend you take a look at this post by Prof James Lake which is really useful: Massage Therapy for Anxiety and Stress
STRESS – Let Mandarin Therapies melt away your stresses and anxieties with a bespoke massage from the comfort of your own home. Tel 07966 174878 to book. eVouchers are also available so why not book a unique gift for someone you love and have the voucher delivered by email with your special message.
Emotional Benefits
Touch will help to improve your emotional state. Humans are naturally ‘social’ so Covid-19 restrictions had a detrimental affect on the wellbeing of many people. Some may still be suffering so it’s important to re-establish those physical contact and nurturing experiences.
Massage sessions will certainly help to improve our wellbeing. The massage effect can be enhanced with the use of essential oils too. Essential oils have been used with massage for thousands of years and the benefits are quite extraordinary. Each essential oil has its own unique properties but you can be forgiven if you thought they are ‘just’ about the smell. Over the years Mandarin Therapies has witnessed some remarkable outcomes with the Aromatherapy treatments. Essential oils have been used to treat headaches, insomnia, PMS, fluid retention, back pain, anxiety, stress, depression, and many other problems including pre & post cosmetic surgery treatments.
Mandarin Therapies Massage In Lincolnshire – Home Treatments
Mandarin Therapies treatments range from 1 to 2 hours and are all conducted from the comfort of your own home. They are most definitely extremely relaxing. I have clients who leave the massage treatment and go straight to bed leaving me to pack up, put the cat out and lock up before I leave”! The last treatment of the day is around 9.00pm so a 2 hours massage will be finishing at 11.00pm. The late finish is perfect for those who, for whatever reason, have problems sleeping at night. The salon experience really does come to your home – a professional couch, towels, pillows, oils, relaxing music and over 34 years of experience.

Mandarin Therapies Massage In Lincolnshire For Everyone
“Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to meet some genuinely nice people who have kept a special place in my heart. I used to visit one dear lady who, following a car accident, suffered with fluid retention in her legs. I visited her twice weekly to perform Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) massages to reduce the swelling and improve mobility. We developed a routine where I would leave to wash my hands while she got undressed and climbed onto the couch.
The routine worked well until one day when I came back into the room I sensed something wasn’t right. Hazel was on the couch as usual but her arms were by her sides instead of on the cradle. During the 30 seconds conversation that took place about her arm placement I realised that something was seriously wrong. Hazel had suffered a stroke! As a result of my quick thinking (I dialled 999) the paramedics and ambulance arrived within minutes and administered the necessary drugs.
Being with her at that moment, having the immediate attention that she needed and the follow up care that was provided by the Stroke Unit at Lincoln County Hospital made all the difference. As a result Hazel made a full recovery and was soon back home doing her daily The Times crossword. Her brain was as sharp as ever and her mobility was no worse than it was before she suffered the stroke. There is no doubt in my mind that my quick phone call and the rapid response by the emergency services saved Hazel from suffering irreversible damage.
Hazel died of old age at 92. I still miss you Hazel X”
Converting Your Massage
As well as being luxurious a targeted massage can help ease many aches and pains, injuries and other conditions.
However, massage isn’t for everyone. If you have an injury, aches or pains that just won’t go away despite having had various other treatments I recommend you try a Biomechanics assessment.
Intrinsic Biomechanics For Injury Rehabilitation And Pain Relief
The Biomechanics assessment follows a standardised format to ensure that it can be repeated and progress plotted. As the picture above suggests, the only equipment required is my couch. You’ll be invited to lie on the couch while I perform the assessment. Movement and restrictions will be plotted then simple exercises will be prescribed to help free tight muscles or tethered nerves. ‘Yes’ we can cure conditions like sciatica, back pain, knee pain, frozen shoulder etc, etc!
All you need to provide is room for the couch and perhaps a dining chair (or similar) for some seated assessments.
A grainy photo from an old phone but it does show the simple exercise nicely. In this case I used an island in the kitchen as it is high enough for the client to sit safely without his feet touching the floor. Obviously I will improvise to use whatever you have available in your house.
This client is demonstrating the ‘leg press’ release. Simply sitting tall, lifting the knee, cradling the leg in his hands (not everyone is able to do this while holding a good postural position so alternatives are available), pressing the thigh gently into the hands for 20 seconds then repeat.
As exercise goes, you’ll agree that this is quite simple.
Knowing what to do is crucial if we are to help someone who has had a stroke. As a result of FAST, Hazel was spared the devastating consequences that a stroke can cause.
Face (first check for facial weakness. The face may have drooped on one side. The person may not be able to smile. Mouth or eye may have drooped)
Arms (check for arm weakness. The person may not be able to lift both arms)
Speech (check for impaired or garbled speech)
Time (dial 999)

Mandarin Leisure Valentines Anniversary – Still Going Strong
Celebrating 34th anniversary on Valentines Day
Mandarin Leisure Valentines Anniversary – Still Going Strong…
Mandarin Leisure Valentines Anniversary – It hardly seems possible that Mandarin Leisurehas been going for so long! The 34th anniversary is on 14 February and it’s hard to believe how quickly the time has flown! I started working part-time in the World Gym while studying to become Lincolnshires’ first Personal Trainer. Later I added complementary therapies to my portfolio and the rest is history. Studying never stops of course as there is always something new to learn.
Initially teaching circuit training classes in village halls the business has grown to include Personal Training, injury prevention, injury rehabilitation, back pain rehabilitation as well as the almost limitless possibilities with the complementary therapies. A few celebrity clients at the very start saw the business skyrocket from zero to a very healthy going concern.
Injury prevention and rehabilitation is a key element of the Mandarin Leisure success
It’s fair to say that helping people is in my genes. My father was awarded the BEM for helping people and my great grandfather was awarded the George Cross for bravery while helping people. My journey started out by helping people with their fitness and wellbeing but I soon discovered that with my healing abilities and vision I was able to help more people than I had ever imagined.
Mandarin Leisure – Introduces massage, aromatherapy, antenatal and postnatal bespoke mobil treatments.
Therapies
Mandarin Fitness (formerly QRS Fitness) added Mandarin Therapies and Mandarin Mothers to the list of businesses in a natural progression. Making people feel well is what I do best! The decision was made very early on to keep the business mobile so that the fitness, rehabilitation and therapies could be taken to the clients. It’s a business model that I’m pleased to say has served me well.
eVouchers
With postal charges increasing it has become more popular (and convenient) to order eVouchers and have them delivered straight to the intended recipient. It’s a fabulous gift and a lovely way to let people know how much you care about them and appreciate them. You can order your eVoucher now and have a special message included too.

Mandarin Leisure Valentines Anniversary – A natural progression
First started in January 2011, the decision to officially launch a dedicated platform in November 2012 took the ‘helping people’ a stage further with the official launch of @LincsConnecton Twitter.
In order to prove its worth I created it anonymously to let people know the it is truly impartial. I helped and promoted all businesses in the Lincolnshire area including other Personal Trainers and therapists who may otherwise have viewed me as a rival business. My fear was that if they had known who was behind the account they might have viewed it differently.
A few years later I started a #LincsConnect networking group so naturally I couldn’t remain anonymous! The meetings went well and I have to say a huge THANK YOU to Emma at thePetwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa for having the faith in me and for supporting Lincs Connect in such a big way.
Due to personal illness I put the meetings on hold but intend to revive them again in the not too distant future.
Covid19
The Next Chapter
Covid19 needs no introductions! My exercise classes were obviously put on hold and my Personal Training sessions moved to online sessions. Having contracted the virus the day before lockdown I needed to find something to keep me occupied during the long hours of isolation.
The pandemic forced me into overcoming my fear of blogging. Having previously written articles and weekly editorials for local papers and glossy magazines, coupled with my love of writing, ‘blogging’ was born. I used my skills to help others throughout the pandemic by sign posting people to local activities, charities and businesses. The new venture went well and I’m pleased to say that my community blogging skills are improving and continuing to help people.
Physical networking was already on hold but I did attempt to create an online network with some success. My heart lies in ‘people’ though so the physical networking sessions are still my priority. My exercise sessions are no longer an option as I suffer with long-covid and breathing is still sometimes difficult. However, I have managed to continue with my Nordic Walking sessions with the support of my fantastic, loyal clients.
What’s Next?
The next chapter has already begun as LincsConnect continues to grow and thrive. Community blogging is here to stay and the physical networking sessions are planned to return in the near future. Online Personal Training continues as do the mobile therapies, injury rehabilitation sessions and Nordic Walking classes.
Happy Valentines Day to you all. You’re never alone as long as Mandarin Leisure and LincsConnect are here.
